Alan Stivell is a passionate advocate
for the Breton culture and language. His songs are a mixture of Breton,
Celtic and English folk with a fair sample of his own work. For me the
early albums are his best work - the fire and passion was at its highest.
The early work falls into two categories - seriously wonderful harp music
(Reflets, E Lagonned) and exciting and energetic folk-rock music (In Dublin,
Olympia Concert). I found that his later works were rather too obsessive,
especially Celtic Symphony which is particularly monotonous.
