Mick Softley

I'm happy to report that Mick is still 'surviving' in Co Fermanagh having had an e-mail from him.

Although it seems as though hardly anybody in the UK has heard of Mick I get mail from all over the world - Gianpaolo is from Italy (bet you didn't guess!) and Hidefumi Matsuzawa in Japan sent me some info. Hidefumi had scans of practically all of Mick Softley's albums at his site, the site itself has now gone but there's still a copy in the archive.

I thought he had only made two albums, then I heard about another two, and finally Gianpaolo Banelli came up with the titles of two more.

Nigel Martin 'did sound for a gig in Belfast's Europa Hotel about 18 years ago. Mick was eventually allowed on stage after being ejected from the hotel several times on suspician of being a hobo, complete with overalls, wellington boots and sheepdog. The dog slept at his feet on the stage throughout the set!'. Thanks for the news, Nigel. Does anyone have any more recent stories?
